
Strasburg has been busy this past summer with a slough of projects for improving the city’s water and sewer. In total there have been four projects this summer: the main water pipes, the main sewer pipes, the lift station and the water tower.

Classes for the 2010-11 term will begin at all area schools within the next week. Classes at Strasburg Public School, Zeeland Public School and Bakker Elementary School will begin on Thursday, August 19; and Hazelton-Moffit-Braddock Public School, Linton Public School and Zeeland Public School will begin classes on Monday, August 23.

U.S. Rep. Earl Pomeroy held a forum with city, county and state officials at the Linton Community Center on Friday to discuss recently enacted legislation that will help the City of Linton and Emmons County move forward with deferred disaster recovery and mitigation projects from the spring 2009 disaster, including 25 home acquisitions totaling more than $1.16 million, as well as remaining road and bridge projects.

TJ Foods, Strasburg’s full-service grocery store, is under new ownership. Joanne Ternes and Sandy Nieuwsma purchased the business from founders Tim Vander Vorst and Jay Miller on June 28, and they are holding a grand opening August 16-20.

Two Linton High School students received Gold medals, while two other LHS students received Silver medals for their STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) Projects at the 2010 Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) National Leadership Meeting in Chicago, Illinois, July 4-8.

Repairs began on the Linton Elementary School building, over two months since part of its roof was ripped off by heavy winds, and the building sustained subsequent water damage to its interior as a result.
