The newly formed Herreid-Selby Area Wolverines Varsity Girls Volleyball Team started the season out in grand style with a Yellowstone Trail Conference Tournament Championship on Saturday, August 28 at Gettysburg. The volleyball teams were seeded based on last year’s points.

Mobridge-Pollock opened their 2010 campaign at home Friday night, Aug. 27. They got off to a fast start but ended up losing to the Linton-HMB Lions, 34-28.

Jeff Kosters, Head Coach of the Herreid/Selby Wolverines expects his football team to be very competitive this year, but admits it will be difficult to duplicate what they did last season. The Wolverines had a 9-1 season last year. They will open their season Friday, Aug. 27, at 3 p.m. when Strasburg travels to Herreid.

Head Volleyball Coach Keri Bolduan and Assistant Rick Bolduan expect that in 2010 Mobridge-Pollock will be the one to watch in District 11A. The Lady Tigers are coming off a 23-11 season last year which they topped off with a trip to State.

The Mobridge-Pollock Tiger Golf Team kicked off their 2010 season at their own Invitational Meet on Friday, Aug. 20. The Tigers are coached by Jason Weisbeck and are coming off a third place finish in the Big Dakota Conference last year.

Tiger football kicks off on Friday, Aug. 27, at Tiger Field when Mobridge-Pollock is scheduled to clash with the Linton/HMB Lions. Head Coach Mike Szczur says his Tigers are going to be very competitive this year. “We have some quality returning starters and a good group of young kids. Our offensive line will have to gel as the season goes on, but we’re looking for a return to the post season.”

The newly formed co-op of Herreid-Selby Area Wolverines Volleyball will be under the leadership of Jody Schmidt of Selby. Gary Weismantel of Herreid will be the Junior Varsity Coach and Adrienne Dupper will serve as the Junior High Coach. Coach Schmidt anticipates the season to be a bit rocky until the girls adjust to the newness of the co-op and as the season progresses, she anticipates great things from the team.

The YTC Midget Tournament was played on Fri.day and Saturday, July 23-24. Eureka brought home the Championship.
